Pūjya Guruji Satya Narayan Goenka, or Goenkaji, played a pivotal role in reviving and globalizing Vipassanā meditation.

Born in Myanmar, he learned Vipassanā from his teacher, Sayagyi U Ba Khin, who entrusted him with the mission of reintroducing the practice to India. In 1969, Goenkaji returned to India and began teaching Vipassanā, overcoming initial challenges to attract thousands of students.

Goenkaji’s vision was global. He established meditation centers worldwide, including the Global Vipassanā Pagoda in Mumbai, a tribute to Myanmar for preserving the practice. His teachings emphasized the universal, non-sectarian nature of Vipassanā, making it accessible to people of all backgrounds. Under his guidance, millions experienced the transformative benefits of this ancient technique, fostering peace and harmony in their lives.

Goenkaji’s legacy is profound, he not only realised his Guru's dream of reviving and repaying the debt to the land of Viapssana's origin but also made it a worldwide phenomenon.
