all spaces +
The journey of Gautama Buddha began countless lifetimes ago when he was born as Sumedha, an ascetic who vowed to become a Buddha. Over millions of years, he cultivated extraordinary qualities (pāramis) through immense sacrifices and selfless service.

Born as Siddhārtha Gautama in Lumbini in 623 BCE, he renounced his princely life to seek the ultimate truth. After years of rigorous practice and deep meditation, he rediscovered Vipassanā, the scientific path to liberation.

His enlightenment revealed the causes of suffering and the way to end it, benefiting millions over the centuries. The birth of a Buddha is a rare and extraordinary event, and we are fortunate to have access to his teachings today.
