THE FOUR FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS OF LIFE
all spaces +
Prince Siddhārtha’s quest for truth began when he encountered the four fundamental truths of life: illness, old age, death, and the peace of renunciation.

These experiences deeply moved him and led him to question the nature of existence. Seeing a sick man, he realized that illness is an inescapable part of life. Witnessing an old man, he understood the inevitability of aging. The sight of a corpse made him confront the reality of death. Finally, encountering a hermit in meditation revealed to him the possibility of inner peace and liberation.

These encounters left a profound impression on Siddhārtha and inspired him to renounce his luxurious life as a prince. Leaving behind his palace, his family, and even his newborn son, Rāhula, he embarked on his quest to find the truth.
