THE NOBLE CHAIN OF GURUS

For over 2,000 years, a slender but unbroken chain of teachers preserved the Buddha’s teachings in their purest form. This noble tradition was carried forward by four key figures: Ledi Sayadaw, Saya Thetgyi, Sayagyi U Ba Khin, and S.N. Goenka.

Each played a pivotal role in ensuring the teachings remained undiluted and accessible. Ledi Sayadaw, a renowned Pali scholar and Vipassanā guru, initiated Saya Thetgyi, the first householder, into the practice of Vipassanā, opening the doors for lay practitioners.

Saya Thetgyi, in turn, passed on the teachings to Sayagyi U Ba Khin, who became a beacon of Dhamma in Myanmar. Sayagyi U Ba Khin entrusted S.N. Goenka with the sacred responsibility of reintroducing Vipassanā to India, its land of origin, and spreading it globally.

The contributions of these four masters are immeasurable, and the world owes them a debt of gratitude for preserving the Buddha’s scientific teachings in its purest form.
